I highly recommend it. I would consider it a true horror genre without any monsters or ghosts, but real-world dread and an unseen terror. The direction, acting, production and visual design is excellent.

Episode 4 was brutal. I had to watch something happy afterwards to cheer me up before I could go to sleep.

If you’re ever having a bad day, just remember it’s not “crash a helicopter at Chernobyl bad.”

If the crash didn’t kill him, the radiation will; And if even that doesn’t kill him, the State will.

In Soviet Russia, helicopter crash you.

I don’t know what you’re talking about.

At least that soldier was compassionate. Otherwise that episode would have been unwatchable.

Completely agree. I’m not really even that much of a dog person and that was tough to watch.

S o you’re saying I should rethink my plan to get the free one-week trial and watch it all then?

I’ve been watching it with my girlfriend who is a radiation safety officer at a nuclear power plant. Sometimes I could do without the gory science details she gives me during some scenes.

Desperate times require desperate measures. Doctor’s recommendation: O ne episode a day.

There’s a nuclear power plant about fifty miles from me that was built under sketchy circumstances and has a poor safety record. Over the last two years, I’ve had a reoccurring dream where I’m hiking in the desert about five miles or so from the plant, just staring at it as I hike. Nothing happens, but I’m filled with a very ominous feeling throughout the dream.
This show is fantastic, and definitely watches like a really well made horror film for me.

My dad mentioned this, but he couldn't remember what network it was on. Thanks!

My last manager was a Chernobyl survivor, said he was in the military that was deployed there. Was on quite a bit of meds and often missed work but still kept a positive outlook on life.

They’ve done a great job with both the science and history. T here were a couple of hiccups, but the only one that really upset me was the description of what would happen if the meltdown reached the cooling water. In the show they said it would create a huge explosion, which isn’t quite right.
There would be a steam explosion but that explosion would really just spread more radiation, the explosion part wouldn’t be more than another moderate explosion (the other reactors would be safe and the damage would have been to the already destroyed building). The release of more radioactive material would have been terrible, but in the show they said the explosion would be like a nuke (it wouldn’t).
Also, what’s really surprising now just more than 30 years later how few people actually died (early, even conservative estimates were ten times what the actual casualties turned out to be). I’m really liking the show.

The score and sound editing is so on point. every episode the sound alone has filled me with dread, even though i know what happened

That’s the great thing about this show. I have watched a few documentaries and I know what happened but this just immerses you and leaves you feeling very uneasy inside once you’re done.
